I tried several photo slide show programs, and this is the first one that works really well. Unlike other photo-managing software, ProShow does not try to be *both* a photo organizer and a slide show producer. It just does shows (slide, video, or screensaver). It helps to have all the photos for a show in one folder, but that's easy enough to do with Windows Explorer or one of the photo organizing programs, such as Picasa or CompuPic. For music (optional), I suggest collecting your MP3 files in a single Music folder.
I bought ProShow Gold because I want to be able to put multiple shows on one CD, which Gold allows.
I put together a slide show of 100 photos for my son, *with music*, and it was a snap. I told ProShow to randomize transitions, which means it always uses a different, fancy way of transitioning from one photo to the next. And you can choose any amount of seconds for photo display.
ProShow makes it easy to see, and control, which music will play with which photos. In addition to music, you can do sound effects. ProShow allows attachment of either MP3 or WAV sound files.
The resulting CD is a no-nonsense, enjoyable show without the advertising that Photodex's older CompuPic Pro put at the beginning of the slideshow. (ProShow offered to optionally show some sort of information before the show, but I suspected that it was an ad and squelched it.)
Some minor cons:
- FOR SOME PEOPLE, THIS MIGHT BE A MAJOR PROBLEM: ProShow does not work with the Adaptec ASPI manager, so you might need to select "Update ASPI", an option provided when you install ProShow. But after ProShow substitutes its own ASPI manager, CD-ripping programs such as CDEX and RealOne might no longer work with your CD drive. My regular CD burner, however, still works.
- Although ProShow allows captions, they must be typed in. Why doesn't ProShow use the captions that PhotoShop lets you store right in the photo file?

Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus - Video Editing Software Review

After three unnsuccessful attempts at installing the software (I'm running XP service pack 2 on a brand new IBM computer), I was finally able to nurse a successful install. (The first three installations would hang and lock up the computer.) This took three hours of my day. After installing the program, I tried to launch it. It takes over four minutes for the program to load to the point where I can attempt to use it! Unacceptable. Thinking that the latest patch would solve this problem, I tried to download an update Pinnacle had posted to its web site. Alas, Pinnacle asks for your product serial number before you can download the update. The web site rejected my serial number repeatedly and would not let me download the latest patch. I tried calling Pinnacle's support number, but the message said the wait was over an hour. So then I e-mailed Pinnacle's support e-mail address. My e-mail was bounced back to me with a message that Pinnacle's mailboxes were too full to accept e-mail. I'd avoid this product and look for alternatives.

Split / Second Review

(More customer reviews)A combination made in heaven. This was like when I watched the movie SNAKES ON A PLANE, my reaction was: of course, why did no one ever think of this before?!
There is a great number of driving and racing games, some better than others. There is even a number of shooting&driving games. However, SPLIT/SECOND is a breed on its own.
When was the last time you had to race a collapsing overpass, dodge the load of an out-of-control crane or a wrecking ball, drive under a crash-landing cargo plane, survive a missile-firing helicopter attack, drift in an exploding airport hangar, or survive a Terminator-2 canal race?
Drifting (no wall-slamming penalty!), drafting, sling-shooting, close-calling crashes and General-Leeing your car will fill your Power Bar. Once it is full you can unleash PowerPlay attacks onto your AI opponents. And, trust me, you will hate them! From start to finish they will be scrapping your tailpipe - and you only need to slip for a split second to total your car. You can leave paint all over the walls but the moment your grill touches that central pillar or dumpster you are totaled. The good news is that respawning only takes a second - no time for the adrenaline to subside.
Choose the best car for the track and handling it will be no problem. Nevertheless, this is not an easy game - and, frankly, I missed those. Nowadays everything seems designed to be breezed through and quickly move on to the next game. Not this baby. Random events (not to mention unexplored shortcuts) make racing the same track feel like a new experience so memorizing the tracks will not be of much help. You will have to really hone your skills in order to advance. Quick advice: remap the PowerPlay buttons to something convenient as timing your attacks is essential.
Fallen behind and only half a lap to go? Well, drive your A-game - and make sure to... drop a burning bus on the opponents you could not overtake.Careful though: this knife cuts both ways. First, you must learn to avoid the attacks you triggered yourself and then you must be ready to speed around the ones your opponents spring on you. Split-second decisions are required throughout.
You are not a passenger so stop gawking at the scenery. Strap in and drive for your life!
The visuals will keep you at the edge of your seat and the screeching and explosion sounds will make the hairs at the back of your neck stand up every time. This is like actually being in a Hollywood summer action-blockbuster. My only gripe is that there are no licensed cars (what we drive is always sleek and gorgeous but, sorry, no Gallardos, no DB9s, no R8s, no Shelbies...) whereas customizing our rides is kept to a minimum. That would have taken the experience to a whole new level!
SPLIT/SECOND, obviously, is more of a well-made arcade than a simulation game. And it is great FUN!
I had initially awarded the game 4 stars but any game that brings you home early to experience it again deserves full marks.

Symantec Endpoint Protection (5 user) Review

(More customer reviews)I have been a longtime user of Norton Corp Edition products and for the most part have been stratified. It only seemed natural when our current subscription to Corp Edition 10 expired that we move to version 11 also called SEP (Symnatec Endpoint Protection) on our Windows 2003 SBS running SQL, Exchange and Act. After reading the manuals the installation seemed pretty straightforward. This is a very different product from version 10 so defiantly plan to spent some time reading the SEP manuals first. After installing the manager on our SBS via the upgrade I ran the deployment manager to install the clients, which seem to go well on only three of the eight XP-pro clients. I had to manually install the software on the other clients due to problems with Outlook getting mail from our Exchange server. The ant-virus client deployment also failed on the server even when I tried to manually install SEP it seemed the version 10 client would not uninstall. So I followed the lengthy task from the support web site to manually remove version 10 from the server and then manually re-installed SEP. After the install Live-Update kept failing. I talked to Symantec tech support several times and per there request removed all Norton/Symantec products and reinstalling SEP a couple of more times after running a couple clean-wipe utilities they provided but Live-Update would still not work. Symantec eventually suggested I go back to version 10 until some of the compatibility issues are resolved with SEP. After investing over 12 hours on this upgrade and then reinstalling the old version we are now considering moving to another venders product.
