Norton Internet Security 2010 1 User-3 PC Review

I was a little frustrated when the upgrade online via my current (well expired) Norton's was going to cost me more than it did last year (almost 60 bucks and it was only $49.99 last year) so I came here to see if I could save a little money and I did! I was a little afraid to download it at first because I saw that it might only work until Dec 2010, but I took the chance anyway because my subscription expired today. Well, after the successful download, I copied down the Product Key, I did the upgrade via the "renew now" tab on my current (expired) Norton's, and it gave me 366 days! Yes! And it was less than 40 bucks so I'm happy about that. I only did this review in case someone else is in the same situation I was in tonight - afraid to download it! :) It's all good.

SUPERAntiSpyware Professional Edition 4.50 2-user License Lifetime Subscription Review

SUPERAntiSpyware Professional Edition 4.50 2-user License Lifetime Subscription

SUPERAntispyware often plays second fiddle to Malwarebytes Antimalware in the malware removal community. In my personal experience working on computers, I find that SUPERAntispyware is aggressive enough to stand on it's own two feet in the realm of removing some of the nastiest stuff out there. The lifetime license is really just the icing on the cake. I personally would opt to turn off the real time protection as it's not as effective detecting malware before it installs but rather removing it once installed. Keeping on the automatic updates and scheduled scanning should be enough to keep your computer clean from some of the serious nasties out there. Make sure to couple this with your existing Anti virus software for optimal protection.

Norton 360 Version 4.0 1 User-3 PC Review

Norton 360 Version 4.0 1 User-3 PC
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been using Norton for 7 years and after having tried many other Anti-Virus solutions it is easy to say Norton is always the most reliable and hassle free.
A few of the product comments here make this down-loadable version of Norton 360 sound hard to use, and that is just not the case.
Getting this download version saved me $15 over having the boxed version shipped, not to mention it was instant.
I had protection going 5 minutes after my order.
Now I did already have a trial version of Norton 360 installed that I had downloaded directly from the Norton site. I just choose to purchase from Amazon after my trial version expired for 2 reasons.
#1 I love Amazon.
#2 The price at Amazon was way better than buying direct from the software vendors own website.
I just purchased 360 here and used the license key Amazon gave me to activate my expired 30 day trial version.
Even if I had not had the trial version already installed, purchasing and downloading this software from Amazon is not complicated at all, as some of the other reviewers would make you believe.
Yes you do have to install the Amazon down-loader software. So what, it was super simple, and you can always uninstall it later if you wish.
Once you install the down-loader which takes all of 30 seconds, you then download the Norton 360 software.
You can then choose to install Norton 360 right from the downloader, however a backup copy of Norton 360 is added into a folder on your PC. On my windows 7 machine this location was at:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Amazon Games & Software
It is named N360-ESD-17-6-0-32-EN.exe so if you can not find the folder just search for that on your PC. You can then easily burn that to a CD so you can install the software on 3 separate computers.
Optionally you could also just transfer the .exe file over your network to your other 2 machines if you have a network setup in your home or office.
I added screen shots of the down-loader and the path within amazon to access your license key after your purchase in the images at the top of this products page.
After your order simply go to your Amazon account to get your product key. Just use the "Your Account" link and then under "Digital Content" select the link titled "Your Games and Software Library". Look for the orange "Your product key" button to access your license key.
Super easy, and super fast! This is a great deal compared to having the product shipped in a Box on CD that you will just end up throwing away after your install anyway!
Go Green and purchase this downloaded version of Norton 360!

Norton Internet Security Suite 2007 - 3 User Review

Norton Internet Security Suite 2007 - 3 User
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received this product on Oct. 26,2006 and have been using it for only three days, so my observations are a little limited.
I successfully installed the program and created an account with Symantec -- no problems there. It ran a full system scan and found and removed some problem files. However, as another rater posted, it slowed down Windows to an agonizing crawl (it took over a minute just to launch an application). Every click of the mouse key meant at least 20 seconds for Windows to respond.
Disappointed and wondering if I was going to have to invoke Symantec's warranty of a 60-day refund if not satisfied, I uninstalled the program. With Norton gone, Windows ran FASTER than before I had installed Norton! It must have cleaned up something.
So, I went to Symantec's site and found their "FAQs" (had to use their search engine to find them) and looked for a problem similar. There was one, and it said that my system might not have enough memory. I checked the system requirements on the box, and it said 256M required, and I have 2G. I re-installed Norton (no problems), let it run a full system scan, and began experimenting by disabling all except the basic feature. Windows ran normally. I then added features back (by checking the appropriate box) one at a time and discovered the most resource-consuming routine is the Automatic Updates. I'm not sure, but it seems that the speed of your internet connection would affect this also (I have a high-speed connection).
With the automatic update disabled, I ran a full system scan again, and it found one virus. Windows now runs normally, and I'm satisfied. Will just have to remember to run the updates periodically.
Update: No need to remember to run updates periodically. It has a feature that reminds you when Symantec has an update ready.
Update #2: Some virus must have gotten by this program because only about four months into the subscription, I got the "blue screen of death." The computer would not load Windows, but it would let me run it in Safe Mode. I could not solve this problem and called in an expert. He was not able to solve it either. I ended up builting a new computer, but this time I installed AVG (free) anti-virus, the one the expert recommended. It seems to work better than Norton.

I have been using the Norton security products for many years, and I have been for the most part very satisfied with them. The one gripe I have is that every year when I go to renew my subscription, I find that I can purchase new copies of the software for less than the renewal price. Although it is relatively easy to buy new copies of the software every year and avoid the exorbitant renewal costs, I feel like Symantec is trying to take advantage of me. I think loyal customers should be rewarded with renewal costs that are at or below readily available costs for the new software from reliable sources like Amazon. Instead, Symantec prefers to try to gouge its customers. For this software which is currently selling for $37.99 on Amazon, Symantec charges $59.99 for renewal. Shame on you Symantec!

Norton Internet Security 2005 AntiSpyware Edition Review

Norton Internet Security 2005 AntiSpyware Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used Norton for many, many years and have always sworn by it as the best anti-virus protection available on the market. With the 2003 version, I switched to Norton Internet Security and loved it. It's always worked perfectly, and I've bought a new year of definitions each year. I planned to update my NIS 2003 version again this year when it expired, but about a month before the expiration, I got an offer from Symantec to buy the NIS 2005 Antispam version for a low price. I decided to go ahead and upgrade from 2003 to 2005 at the low price.
Last weekend my subscription to NIS 2003 expired, so instead of re-subscribing, I instead downloaded and installed the NIS 2005 version. That's when the problems started. After downloading and installing, I updated the virus definitions. This went fine, and I thought I was through with it. A while later I went into the NIS program and when I opened it up, only part of the screen appeared--the border, without the middle with all the buttons to click. It did this everytime I opened the program, so I decided to reinstall the program. After restalling and updating the definitions, again I thought I was through.
Little did I know my troubles were just starting. After installing the NIS 2005, I could no longer go onto the internet. My computer also started freezing up. I had to restart it numerous times and as I tried to troubleshoot it. After about an hour, I just said to myself let my computer work long enough before freezing up so I could uninstall NIS 2005. After a while, I was able to do that.
Once I uninstalled NIS 2005, I again assumed I was back to business. I would just look for another anti-virus and firewall program. But no, I could not go on the internet. I checked my wireless connections and found the IP addresses for my network were all screwed up. I worked on it for hours, checking and rechecking my network connections. I reinstalled my wireless card. I tried another wireless card. Nothing worked, after a whole day of working on it. Finally I had to admit that NIS 2005 had completely hosed my computer and my network connection.
So after many wasted hours, and many more curses at Symantec for its product, I had to use Windows XP System Restore to roll my computer back to how it existed prior to the NIS fiasco. I decided to use the free McAfee anti-virus and firewall available to me from AOL. However, McAfee couldn't install because it detected an existing anti-virus program on my computer, even though I had deleted Norton NIS 2005. I had to go to the Symantec website and download 3 different programs, and run them, along with deleting various files and registry entries, in order to finally get rid of all the various pieces of NIS 2005 and my prior NIS 2003.
So after being a good Norton customer for many years, I've now gone to the other side of another good customer who has now been hosed by Norton software that screwed up my computer and internet connection! I hate to say it, but now I'll never be a Norton customer again, and cannot recommend the program to anybody. The risks aren't worth it.

Panda Antivirus Pro 2010 1 User Review

Panda Antivirus Pro 2010 1 User

This is the first time that I have made a product review on Amazon, but given my experience with this product I felt the need to. First of all, while the box states that this product is Windows 7 ready, if you try and install this product on a Windows 7 system you will get the following statement: The installation of Panda Antivirus Pro has been canceled. You are trying to install this product on an operating system that is not yet supported.
I had a Windows Vista machine and was running the 2009 version on it. Two weeks prior to the time my expiration date was up, the program stated given two to three alerts every three minutes stating that update had canceled. It seems that they stop your ability to update two weeks prior to actual expiration date and try and spam you into renewing. Even the fact that they will charge you $20 more to buy it on their website than the current Amazon price and the tack on an additional $9.52 for an "Express Download Service," if you really feel the need to buy this product, save yourself the trouble and buy it in the store so you can then return it easier when it will not install on your computer.
I will now be going to TrendMicro instead of Panda.

My laptop was working great but my Norton antivirus subscription had expired so I purchased Norton 360 Premiere. After installing 360 my laptop refused to connect to the internet either wirelessly or via ethernet. I called Symantec support and they walked me through uninstalling 360. After uninstalling 360 the laptop would still not work. Symantec said it was a FiOS problem. I called Verizon and they walked me through some diagnostic tests (which they said Symantec should have done) and they concluded my registry and drivers were corrupted by the 360 software. Not their problem. Called back Symantec and their seemingly incompetent (would start to tell me to do one thing and then change their mind and have me do something different) support person had me delete all "norton" folders from my registry and restart. Still no access to internet. Symantec Says call verizon. Verizon now says that what Symantec did does not fix the registry and Verizon suggested I pay somebody like the "geek squad" to repair it. This may be a great product if it ever works but so far the problems it has caused and the poor support I have received from Symantec make me regret the purchase.

This version comes on a USB flash drive so it is no sweat to install on a netbook, most of which lack a CD drive so you don't need a external drive. Also, much cheaper to buy this way. I saved $35 over subscribing using the installed trail version that came on my netbook. Also, the trial version was buggy and failed to load on start up about 50% of the time.

Norton 360 Version 2.0 Premier Edition Review

Norton 360 Version 2.0 Premier Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Over the years I have used many Anti-Virus / Anti-Spyware / Defrag programs. I have gone from McAfee to AVG to many others. When Norton first came out, it was by all purposes a "memory hog". On top of that it would spam your computer with countless messages of "invasions" or "attacks". Many of which would be irrelevant.
Now fast forward to 2008. Norton has now put all it's products into one nice handy package. While to some it might be Norton Products Lite, I feel that the program as a whole is sufficient enough for the needs of the average computer user. It comes with a spam filter, anti-virus, defrag, temporary file clean-up and backup program. To the average "non-computer literate" consumer, the fact that this is all together and is easy to manage is a blessing. It is also very quiet. What I mean by this is, you do not get all the annoying messages I spoke of earlier. Norton simply keeps out all of the invasions, and runs all it's processes in the background. The only indication that anything is going on is simply a little clear "bubble" in the taskbar letting you know what tasks are going on. They also include a log that tells you what all Norton has done.
As a computer technician I would suggest this to the average computer user. It's simple and easy to use and comes bundled together. That being said, if you are an advanced computer user, you might feel that this program is lacking. By being bundled many of the programs do not come with the many advanced customizations that you might see in other programs. One example is in the Disk Defrag program. You do not get the option of putting, say for example, *.exe files at the first of the hard drive so it takes less processing of the HD to find your program files. Also despite the reliability of Norton as a whole, I find the Spyware removal program to be lacking a little bit. While I do love the Phishing Protection (harmful websites), I feel that Norton does miss a number of typical Spyware programs. But to counter that, there are many free spyware programs out there on the net that can pick up that slack. And as most avid computer users know, one product alone will not prevent ALL spyware due to the ever changing methods out there. Either way to a computer guru this product is stripped down. But to the average user, it's just right.
Regarding the many people having installation problems, all I can say is I have installed this on 3 computers, each with a different setup. One has Windows XP Service Pack 1 (Old Pentium III 750 Mhz Processor). Another computer has Windows XP Service Pack 3 (AMD Athlon XP). The last has Windows Vista Home Premium (Intel Pentium Centrino Duo) Service Pack 1. I have had no installation problems, update problems, or application conflicts. I even run Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware as well. Both applications are notorious for supposedly having conflicts with Norton 360.
With Norton 360 Version 2.0 Premium you are getting a good deal with this program (Defrag, Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, and Disk Cleaner all in one). If you don't need the extra storage that Premium allows then you might just go with Norton 360 Version 2.0 (Regular) as it provides a cheaper alternative. Either way you can not go wrong with this product. And if you seek technical support, I'd suggest the online method as I do agree that many of the technicians I have spoke to on the phone are either hard to understand or seem to lack the technical proficiency I ask for in my help. If you need a one-stop solution for your Security needs this is the way to go.
Pros:
- Easy Installation
- Quiet Processes (Runs in Background - No Alerts)
- Several Programs in one
- Low Resource Usage compared to previous Norton products
Cons:
- Lack of Customization
- Anti-Spyware does not always clear out everything
- Renewal Process is a bit iffy (Online process messed up a few times)

What is there to say, I have found that buying a new version of Norton from Amazon each year is less expensive than buying a "subscription" upgrade from Symantec itself for some reason.
While it is a bit of a "pain" to have to use the Norton Removal Tool before installing the new version, I like doing it since I end up with all the newest definitions, functions, and actaully save money doing it.
I had some trouble last year when the 2009 version also negated access to my MP3 player driver somehow, and I had a heck of a time getting everything working again. This year's version, no problem. Still Norton, still great virus protection, and an even better SONAR attack identifier included in the system.

Eset Smart Security V.4.0 Review

Eset Smart Security V.4.0
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This software is ridiculous. After learning how some anti-virus software can slow down a PC more than just about anything else (including some viruses) I uninstalled Comcast's free McAfee and installed Norton. The result wasn't much better. I use AVG's free version at work, but it has problems granting access to programs and appears to take up too much memory.
Maybe there's cheaper AV software that can beat those programs, but I can't imagine it meeting let alone surpassing the performance of Eset Smart Security. Yeah, my computer's faster, but I've also had no firewall issues - all the highly recommended free firewall programs make me manually recognize my network any time the computer resumes from sleep. This thing seems intuitive. It doesn't throw a fit and protest every time I start Frostwire, but yet it is excellent at recognizing downloads, software, and pages that should require user permission. Sometimes I'm like, "Shouldn't I get a request to allow or deny permission/access," and then about 30-hundreths of a second later - boom! There's the alert. If anyone has or had McAfee you know about the multiple grant/deny requests for the same page or program - then, 30 seconds later when you think you're done there's another one.
Sometimes you get what you pay for. McAfee and Norton seem to invest most of their money in marketing allowing them to charge a cheaper rate for an inferior product. For some reason this appeals to a lot of people. I haven't tried Kaspersky, Trend Micro, Bit Defender, or the others because too many people I consider experts recommended Eset. No need to continue shopping from my end. Sometimes it's impossible to pay too little and get a lot. This is a great product and well worth the price if you rank peace of mind and your computer not behaving like a Slowski as desireable things. You get what you pay for. There's a 30 day no credit card needed trial if you want. That will get you 12 months and 23 days for $59.99 because after one week you're going to decide you want it. Cheers.

Norton 360 4.0 1 User 3 PC Review

Norton 360 4.0 1 User 3 PC

Presumably this software got its name because it offers a full circle of protection. Several years ago I discontinued using Norton antivirus software because of installation and performance issues. It also made no sense for me to pay for protection when I could download and install McAfee antivirus software free-of-charge through my Comcast Internet account. Since I recently switched from Comcast to Verizon FIOS, I thought it might be a good time to give Norton's software another try. I must say that I'm impressed with the improvements in Norton's newest version.
The most important features that I look for in antivirus software is the ability to protect my computer from viruses and spyware and to do so without adversely affecting my computer's performance. Although McAfee's antivirus software, included free with my Comcast Internet service, apparently protected my Dell Inspiron notebook computer from virus infections for more than 3 1/2 years, it really slowed down my computer at times...especially when opening PowerPoint and Word files. When McAfee was running its weekly automatic full-file scan it would consume nearly all of my computer's power, leaving few resources for me to do my tasks.
I experienced several pleasant surprises after removing my former antivirus software and installing Norton 360. Most importantly, the installation went smoothly and quickly. Norton 360 automatically configured itself on both my Outlook and Outlook Express mail clients to screen for SPAM, which I consider the scourge of the Internet. Then it did a quick scan of my hard drive to make sure there were no infections and offered to automatically remove hundreds of relatively harmless tracking cookies that were slowing down my computer. My computer now runs noticably faster.
Now I can open Word and PowerPoint files in a fraction of the time it took me to do so when I was using other antivirus software. I might add that I've also been pleased with Norton 360's ability to identify and divert SPAM from my inbox and into a SPAM folder which I can check regularly and empty. Although my mail provider also screens for SPAM, a lot of it still gets through and I previously wasted enormous amounts of my time deleting it from my inbox. My Norton 360 catches and diverts most SPAM and, for the ones that it misses the first time, I am able to quickly "teach" it to catch it the next time. This has been one of Norton 360's features that I have appreciated the most.
In summary, I see Norton 360 as a significant improvement over previous Norton antivirus programs that I have used and I get much better performance from my computer since I switched from other antivirus software. Only time and experience will tell me if Norton 360 is as effective with its virus protection. So far, after using it for nearly two weeks, I'm still virus free and my computer is running better and faster.
After writing this review and using the software for a couple of months, I installed Norton 360 on two more computers; an Acer netbook with Atom processor running Windows-XP home SP3 and an older mid-tower computer that I built several years ago. It is running Windows-XP pro SP3. In both cases the installations went smoothly and those computers actually ran faster after I removed other anti-virus software and installed Norton 360. After using this software for a year, I upgraded to Version 5. My review of the newest version of this software is now posted on Amazon.

Eset Nod32 Antivirus V.4.0, 3 User Review

I am an IT professional and have had experience with more than 10 different antivirus products. In the old days, products like Norton (Symantec), McAfee, and Trend Micro ran fairly efficiently and didn't have a big impact on your CPU while they ran scans or did realtime protection.
However as all of the vendors began adding features like firewalls, anti-spam protection, and tool bars for safer surfing, their products have become so cumbersome that you will see a very noticeable impact on the performance of your computer.
When NOD32 entered the scene, they changed all of that. They built a no nonsense AV product that has one of the most highly rated protection levels while having minimum impact on your computer. Version 4 of Eset Nod32 continues that trend. Even the Eset Smart Security product which includes the firewall, anti-spam, antispyware, and AV is much more efficient than the competing products.
When my license ran out for my home PCs, I came here to Amazon and bought this 3 user pack to save some money. It is cheaper than renewing online and not really much of a hassle to register and get your new username and password.
Nod32 version 4 comes in both 32bit and 64bit versions, so running it on Windows 7 64bit is not a problem. Once you register and get your username and password, you can even download the latest versions from the Eset website.
Overall I still cannot find a better AntiVirus product on the market. There are always new ones cropping up, but none have shown me any improvements over Nod32.

I've used Norton for 9 years and at the end of each year I buy the next version (when "I" get the time). Their policy has always been that your anti virus still functions but the latest updates are not given unless your paid subscription is up to date. This is fair and fine. What is piss poor customer treatment is now the minute your subscription expires your anti virus is turned off leaving you exposed on the internet! I won't be held hostage again I switched to Vipre and its even better(check out all the 5 star reviews). I won't have something I paid for taken away until I pay them a fresh ransom! As consumers send them a message or expect all of them to start doing this!
Update - Microsoft Security Essentials Is a FREE (anti virus) program downloaded from Microsoft and works extremely well. It consumes very little of your computers resources and seem to catch everything. This might be their best kept secret ever! An IT manager in my workplace recommend it to me and I've bee thrilled with it's performance ever since and it's FREE! Just do a search for Microsoft Security Essentials and follow the instructions from the Microsoft link.

Norton Internet Security 2008 up to 3 Users Review

Norton Internet Security 2008 up to 3 Users
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I do not typically write rejoinders from previous reviews, but on this occasion I feel it necessary. As a longtime user and tester of antivirus/antispyware/security suite software, I have been terribly disappointed over the years by what has (or had) become of Norton products. Starting around 2004 they transformed into bloatware, slowing down computers, overhauling the CPU, and basically were a nuisance. NIS 2006 was probably the worst of the lot, although McAfee's security suite software this last year gives it competition in the department of ineptitude.
To give some credit where it is due, Symantec apparently listened, read, and paid attention to the complaints, and they revamped their product. NIS 2008 won over this critic, and I must admit that it was a pleasant surprise when I installed the trial version on my work and home computers (200 GB hard drive, 1.8 GHz Duo Processor, Windows Vista Home Premium on the home laptop). Since I like to test software on my computers to empirically observe the chaos that ensues, I was not expecting much. If anything, my experiences with Norton products instilled in me a sense of foreboding futility. I cannot stress enough how unexpectedly satisfying it was to witness a security software company finally comprehending the concept of listening to its customers.
What impressed me most about NIS 2008 was the ease of use, the simplification of the interface, although its graphics still leave much to be desired (as with the 2007 version), and even featured a more user friendly program with help and assistance options that seem to actually assist a computer user. Best of all, it is not as cumbersome on my computer usage as previous versions, and it is barely noticeable on my CPU. It also has a much better browser defender, which includes one for Mozilla Firefox (after numerous complaints over its past omissions to provide security for non-Explorer web browsers). The browser defender also doubles as a password protector on web pages that you frequent.
Another departure from older versions is that it is easy to install (installs quickly, actually), does not interfere with the booting and re-booting of my computer, and does not slow down my employment of other programs (like Microsoft Office). All of these are areas of progress for NIS.
There are a couple of cautions, however. One, if you do want to use this program, try the trial download first, to see for yourself (it is good for two weeks). Also, if you purchase the product, make sure to download the add-ons for NIS 2008, which contains vital elements like anti-spam and parental controls. You need this add-on (it is located on the Symantec site) for email protection at the very least, so it is highly recommended that you use it.
Compared to other security suite software currently on the market, NIS 2008 is certainly as good, if not better, than the competition. This is not saying much to the extent that much of what constitutes security suite software (like CA, Zone Alarm, McAfee) has over time become gradually worse, less efficient, and slower. NIS 2008 is an advance over its previous versions and the competition. Among the other security suite software, Kaspersky Internet Security is the only program I have tried that is nearly as non-intrusive and maintains the ability to at least detect viruses as efficiently as NIS (although the security tests I used on these programs were more easily detectable than those utilized in more rigorous tests). As long as you are willing to pay and want the protection of a quality antivirus with antispy/malware program, NIS 2008 is a good choice.

Until recently I used a competitors security suite,I had this Norton preinstalled on both my new PCs so I gave it a chance,I should say I had Internet 2008 not 2009,but I liked 2008 so I bought 2009 suite. It uses far less CPU cycles and way less memory than my previous security ware.It installed no hassles it even uninstalled Norton 2008 before installing 2009.It worked flawless, the download was fast and both PCs had no problems after. It only took about 5 minutes per PC to install.I would reccomend this software. Also my desktop runs Vista Home Premium 64 Bit,so I know this software is compatable. My first complete scan took only fifteen minutes and it scanned roughly 450,000 items,so its pretty quick.
