Battlefield 2142 Review

This is simply a fantastic game. I've played BF2, but I love BF2142. An extremely active gaming community exists centered around this game. The graphics are not bleeding edge like those in Crysis, but that just means that you'll be able to play it on a reasonably current computer (even laptops). The true squad based team play is the best I've experienced to date. The game is played through four (3) different game types: Conquest Mode, Titan Mode, Assault Lines Mode. The Titan Mode is truly a new experience as not only is there a "capture the flag" (in this case missile silos) type model, but it also incorporates an alternate method for defeating the enemy faction by assaulting and boarding the enemy Titan and destroying from the inside by detonating the Reactor Core.
The gaming community that I've found to be the best is called "Texas...Teamplayers..." This is an extremely active community site that hosts several online games, of which BF2142 is one. The site also host multiple gaming clans. If you decide to purchase this game (and I strongly recommend that you do if online shooters are your thing) check out "Texas...Teamplayers..." at http://www.texasteamplayers.com. As I said, this is probably the best Gaming community site out there when it comes to Battlefield 2142, Battlefield 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike: Source, Arm A, Call of Duty 4, Day of Defeat: Source, and the Battlefield 2: Project Reality modification. All game servers are ranked and many of the games also have practice servers available for trying out new strategies and tactics.

Rise of Flight Iron Cross Edition Review

Rise of Flight Iron Cross Edition

This is not a full review, just my impression of this simulator. I don't have the ICE edition, but the previous one. ICE is actually a repackage of the previous version, with more planes available by default (when planes appear, you buy them - if you want to fly them, otherwise they are in the game, but only for AI). So if you don't have the previous version, this one is the better deal. This model (pay/buy what planes you want) helps with making the new patches free.
It has the best flight models, graphics, plane models and a very detailed mission editor. A lot of work was put into it. You do need a good computer (try an i7 or a Phenom x6, this one is pretty cheap for the performance you get) and you have to be prepared to spend time configuring it - because it is a simulator, not a game. Nevertheless, it has a lot of options to help the new user (including guided shooting). It does run on 64 bit all right, unlike what a previous poster implied (i have it running on a win7 x64 with phenom II x6 at 3500GHz). While not 'theoretically' required, you really need at least a good joystick (pitch, roll) with twist option to also control the rudder, or in addition - pedals (much better). Multiplayer offers 'cooperative mode' missions (everybody starts at the same time, dead is dead), dogfight mode (everyone enters when he/she can, you can respawn when dead) and also a 'conquer the flag' mode. The mission editor is very powerful, with lot of triggers and 'logic' stuff. The sim also offers a quick mission builder for single player, a (dynamic) campaign mode and a 'career mode' (scripted campaigns). So you can fill the skies with planes, or fly under bridges, or get medals and promotions flying campaigns or multiplayer.
It is very addictive, if you are a serious simmer and/or aviation fan. Some people only play this sim.

Hoyle Casino 2009 Review

Please don't waste your money on this game. The 2004 version is much better. This game requires massive computer resources to run and is STILL choppy and painfully slow. On an XP system it takes almost 15 minutes for the DVD (yes - DVD, not CD-ROM) just to initially load and show anything on the screen for installation. Support site says it can take over 30 minutes on Vista.
Then there were a slew of bugs in the shipped version, so you have to download a MASSIVE patch from the web site. After several hours on my high-speed internet connection, I went to bed. It finished sometime in the middle of the night. I'm not sure what "bugs" it fixed as the card are still tiny and unreadable. I think Hoyle spent all its efforts on the massive and unnecessary graphics.
Finally, the only reason I bought the newer version was in the hope that the gaming logic had improved - specifically in tournaments. The old game always got stuck in rampant and runaway "raises" with no basis in reality. I was hoping this had been corrected, but no such luck. It's still just as bad as it was in 2004.
This is going straight to a landfill. I wouldn't even donate this game to Goodwill.
