My favorite type of game is simulation, and when I saw this one, I got it. I comes with three great Sims. Caesar, Pharaoh and the Pharaoh expansion. All three games are great, and here is a little info of each.
First Caesar III, the sequal to Caesar II. Rule a Roman empire! Obey the gods and you recieve blessings, don't and face certain doom. Treat your plebs, build houses, forts, walls, granarys, and water systems. Fight distant enemies with your legions. Gain a good reputation and achieve emperor status. Will your empire crumble are succeed. You decide, be an emperor the the gods will loke up to!
Pharaoh is the game coming after Caesar III. It has the same game fell as Caesar, but instead of Rome you control Egypt. Train Egyption armies to fight enemies. Get food by fishing, growing reeds in the Nile and sending hunters to fetch food. Obey the gods, and build monuments that will stand for ages. Manufacture goods to ship across and the lands and make money.
Finally, the expansion extends the gameplay for Pharaoh a lot farther. You can make more goods like paint and oil and also construct larger monments like tombs and pyrimids.
Overall, I like these games a lot, but the reason I gave 4 stars is because the more things you make, the slower the game gets. Sometimes, you can make so many buildings that it runs out of memory and the game freezes. But if you like sims, get this!

Empire Earth Review

I can still remember when I played the original AGE OF EMPIRES, wondering to myself if they would be able to make the same general strategy game using modern weaponry. As I loved the original AE, I held out hope that they would someday be able to pull it off.
Well, there is no reason to wonder anymore: our friends at SIERRA have done it. EMPIRE EARTH and its expansion set (both included in EE GOLD) takes us all the way from the dawn of mankind up thru the modern age and even into the future with spaceship and robotic battles and the like.
For myself, the most satisfying component of the game is being able to play with modern-day weapons. Build tanks, artillery and various troops for huge land battles. Build air-forces with fighters and bombers. Build navies with submarines, aircraft carriers, battleships and frigates.
Your civilians form the backbone of your military apparatus as they're the ones who collect the necessary resources (i.e.: wood, food, gold, stone, iron, etc) for your campaigns. You're the one in charge; how you utilize your resources is up to you. If you fail, you're the one who is accountable. If you are victorious, you're the one who deserves all the accolades and glory!
The most remarkable thing about the game for me is its symmetry. There is no one single "unstoppable" weapon in your arsenal. The most powerful weapon is the B-52, with which you can nuke your enemies. However, you had better protect it with great care; send it by itself on long-range bombing sorties and it's sure to be shot down by enemy fighters, anti-aircraft batteries or soldiers with STINGER missiles.
You may create TRIDENT submarines with powerful cruise missiles that can strike targets deep inland. However, these submarines are also the easiest for your enemies to sink: protect them at all costs!
Apache helicopters are devastating against tanks and other land targets, but are highly vulnerable to STINGERS and are downright helpless against enemy jet fighters. Jet fighters are susceptible to the fierce fire of anti-aircraft batteries. However, anti-aircraft batteries are hapless against tanks. All units have their strong points, and all units have their weaknesses, be they ground, sea or air.
If you like strategy games, I cannot recommend EE enough. If you like building armies, blowing stuff up and upgrading the prowess of your military, this is certainly the game for you. Just beware: it's about the most addictive game you will ever play!

The villagers are now smarter, for example they'll start gathering wood after building a lumber camp, farm queing, you just give enough money to it, and villagers will build farms untill money run off.
Ram's are now transports, garrizon units inside it to increase speed and defend units inside. ship formations, you can also send commands to friendly computer players. and finally new temperature zones including tropics, and ice. That is a very interesting game...

Empire Earth Expansion: The Art of Conquest Review

Empire Earth Expansion: The Art of Conquest
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The expansion adds a new era to Empire Earths 100,000s years, adding a new level of game play and diversity into this already great game. It also adds far more greater eye candy and improvements into the already evolved game play; example farms are no longer corn only; they offer a diversity of fruits/vegetables and now Custom Civilizations Offer special abilities for your Empire in General; Ranging from Slavery, To expansionism, to A Market (AOK anyone?) to cloaking and Insurance. It also offers specialized units Such as the Cyber ninja , SAS commando and Paratroopers. The ninja can disable temporarily building productions , while on the other hand SAS commandos can set charges on things C n C style, and finally paratroopers are tossed from a plane (8 of them) to assist softening the defenses for a full scale attack. A new terrain also is introduced; Mars, this inhospitable planet is the zone for your allies and you to create an empire to rule them all. I believe this is one of the few great expansions that introduce more ups then downs. Must have for EE lovers.

The Art of Conquest expansion pack for Empire Earth includes three new single-player campaigns set in ancient Rome, the Pacific theater of World War II, and Asia in the 22nd century. In addition, each of the 21 predesigned civilizations in the game gains a unique power, building, or unit. Examples include: the Kingdom of Italy's metallurgy power, which allows it to pay building costs with gold or iron interchangeably; Great Britain's S.A.S. unit which can plant demolitions and swim across water; and the United States' market building which allows that civilization to trade abundant resources for scarce ones.
The Art of Conquest expansion also features significant new multiplayer functionality. The multiplayer improvements further enhance Empire Earth's wide array of online gameplay options, and give more flexibility to gamers competing via the Internet.
Empire Earth and Empire Earth: The Art of Conquest cover over 500,000 years of human history, from the discovery of fire to laser battles of the future. Each player takes control of a fledgling civilization and strives to forge the greatest of all empires.

Sid Meiers Civilization IV Beyond the Sword Review

Sid Meiers Civilization IV Beyond the Sword
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Beyond the sword offers so much more than the previous one. Here is what I believe to be the best aspects:
Espionage is now a much larger part of the game. You may use funding to increase and decrease the amount you would like to concentrate on it. Just like science and culture.
Next war mod- This will add about thirty more techs to your tree in the end-game. Clones, mechs, and mind control centers are just a few examples. The only thing I don't like about this is you have to load the mod in order for it too work. Also, it is a tad annoying that the end-game music plays throughout the entire game if you choose this.
A bunch more leaders and few more civs- this is always a bonus. Holy Roman Empire and Byzantium are great choices. Being a fan of ancient Mesopotamian culture I appreciate the Babylonians and Sumerian civs being added as well. Native Americans are also a fun addition.
There is a new random event concept that actually adds a lot of fun to the game. Something good or bad happens at random and you make choices that either make things better or worse.
When it comes to the scenarios, it looks like they were going for a bit of experimentation instead of the usual. Still if you're anything like me you play these once and never look at them again.
There is one that is like a cyber-punk scifi where you fight zombies. Interesting idea but there isn't much to it. Just walk around in dark buildings while you are assaulted by wave after wave of zombies.
Perhaps the best one is an outer space scenario where you colonize planets. About ten new space civs to choose from and a brand new tech tree .
The Charlemagne scenario as you may have guessed involves the many countries vying for power during the dark ages.
Broken star is a russian campaign that involves a fractured russia. Choose a faction and attempt to find nukes.
I believe the animations have been improved and the units of different civs have been changed so they have more personality. ie. an asian civ will look asian while a native american civ looks native american, instead of the units of every civ looking the same.
Unlike the last installment I believe your getting your moneys worth this time around.

Empire: Total War Review

Empire: Total War
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
(For the most recent comments see the updates)
Let me begin by pointing out that I am a HUGE fan of the Total War series. I started with Rome, continued with the Barbarian Invasion, segueyed into Medieval II and the subsequent Kingdoms expansion. Needless to say, I was eagerly anticipating this game. I even bought a top of the line Mach V rig with all the bells and whistles and a 30in monitor to take in the beauty of it all. My machine has no problem handing the graphics settings on Ultra and I can tell you that visually, this game has the potential to be stunning (provided your computer is up to the task).
Now the negative. The game comes with Steam software which introduces its own complications to the process of enjoying ones game. Granted that the auto-patching feature is pretty sweet, but almost everything else about this system is not (See other reviews here for more details). But thats not even the meat of my beef.
Creative Assembly (CA) released this much anticipated game KNOWING that it was a beta version. After reading countless posts on various message boards, it is more than apparent that this game was not ready for release but for some reason they went ahead with it anyway. This in effect made everyone who bought it an unwitting beta tester (with all the frustrations and none of the salary). As I see it, Creative Assembly has spent all of its credibility capital from the prior installments on this piss-poor shell of a game. Thats not fair, it is 90% of a game but that missing 10% makes it unplayable (frequent crashes to desktop, white screens of death, and corrupted save files are the major issues with a few minor issues sprinkled in for good measure).
This will be the last time I purchase a game from Creative Assembly within the first six months of launch and I would advise others to do the same. Not to send a message to CA (though they deserve a swift kick to the junk for this scam), but to save yourself the money and the frustration.
5/21/09 UPDATE: Two and a half months after release, CA is still frantically attempting to patch this game to make it playable. However with every step forward, it seems like they are taking two steps back. The Battlefield AI has gone from acceptably bad to unacceptably bad. Lingering issues related to crashes still persist though the White screen of death and save corruptions seem to have been resolved. The economy system has been tweaked to make the game more difficult, some prefer the change, some do not. Modders are doing their best to put a polish on this game but some fundamentals still remain broken. My original advice to wait for fixes before purchasing still stands, this game is still in post-market Beta testing but should be fun once its completed (probably 3 months from now).
7/01/09 UPDATE: A week after the 1.3 patch, it is time for an update. Personally, the game works much better now than before. This is subjective since some people have had new CTD issues with the latest patch that were not there before. CA released a hotfix tonight to address the CTDs introduced with their latest patch. While the game is generally more fun and playable now, there are still some elements of the game that will likely require an expansion pack-sized update to address (these issues include siege battles being totally broken and unrealistic still, no cross-theater naval invasions, crap diplomacy, and Campaign AI that never retreats EVER even when outnumbered 10 to 1, just to name a few). Adding to my concern is that patch 1.4 will seek to introduce a multi-player campaign (which, if you were paying attention, was supposed to come with the game 4 months ago). That's like building a house on a unfinished foundation, bound for more Failure. Additionally, CA has decided to tweak naval units so that the biggest/tallest ships with the biggest guns and best crews will have a shorter range, lower accuracy, and slower reload times than the smallest/shortest ships with the smallest guns, despite the overwhelmingly negative response from the hardcore community that would like at least some adherence to the laws of physics. CA hears but does not listen to its most dedicated fans.
Despite all of this (which is really just most of the negative points), If you cannot wait any longer, I think its worth the current price.
If I had to rate this game again, I would give it 4 stars for fun, and three stars overall. Too bad it took four months to achieve mediocrity. Oh well, new engine, new problems, I bet future installments will have much smoother releases. Still, I advocate hesitation when it comes to purchasing future CA/SEGA collaborations.
My next update will come a week after the release of patch 1.4.

Call the shots in epic battles all over the world and expand your realm of influence throughout the tumultuous eighteenth century with Empire: Total War for your PC. Set against the bold intellectual landscape of the Enlightenment, this extension of the Total War franchise brings you out of the middle ages and into a realm where guns, gunpowder, and naval warfare have a dramatic influence on the face of combat.
Historic Factions, Expanded Horizons, and an Updated Campaign Map Total War's detailed, turn-based battle system has received some serious upgrades that will have an impact on both seasoned commanders and newly minted combatants. The UI has been streamlined, and the systems for handling trade and diplomacy have been updated. You have improved advisors at your disposal, and realistic espionage techniques can be carried out using agents.
Empire puts a variety of major political factions into your hands, including France, Spain, Great Britain, Sweden, the United Provinces in northern Europe, Prussia, the Ottoman Empire, and Russia. Detailed strategic elements come into play, whether you're fighting in the heart of Europe, warding off Mamluk horsemen in the middle east, or working to capture the wealth of India. Beyond all this, for the first time in Total War history, the continent of North America is an open field of play that portrays the unique strategic problems encountered by the founding fathers during the revolutionary war.
Dynamic 3D Naval Battles and Forces of Nature Total War's signature 3D battle scenes are paired with a new graphics engine and improved technology, allowing war and conquest to take on an even more realistic feel. Advanced landscape and flora systems add both realism and depth to the world stage, while dynamic weather consistently threatens to throw a wrench in your attack plans.
Whether you're coordinating platoon firing or supporting a defensive square formation, the musket and the cannon take center stage as newly developed implements of war. And they're not just for use on land. Real-time naval battle set on dramatic seascapes help shape the balance of power and determine the scope of your Empire, and they're rendered in the same impressive 3D as battles on land. You may find yourself directing a vast fleet through intricate maneuvers, controlling the helm of a single tall ship, or grappling to the enemy's boat and dictating the course of hand-to-hand combat on deck.
New Multiplayer Action Additional updates to the Total War model include a multiplayer component that provides player rankings for competitive commanders, leagues and ladders, and a selection of entirely new modes of game play.
