QuickBooks Invoice Manager 2010 Review

QuickBooks Invoice Manager 2010

I wanted more information about this software but I was unable to find it on Intuit's site. I contacted Intuit and they said Intuit has discontinued selling and support for the standalone version of Invoice Manger. They said this was included in QuickBooks. QuickBooks is way more than I need.

Quicken Rental Property Manager Review

Quicken Rental Property Manager
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been managing rental property for about 15 years, starting with 2 buildings and 10 units at the beginning and now with 25 units in 5 buildings, containing a mix from studios and 1-bedrooms up to 4-bedroom apartments.
I recently decided to update from a very old version of Quicken, and since they had this program specifically for rental properties, I thought I'd found a perfect match. I couldn't have been more wrong.
You would think that a company that has made accounting software for this long would understand the most basic needs, like a running total alongside each transaction (which even my 7-year old edition of Quicken had). Nope. There is only a single running total. Make a mistake, and it is virtually impossible to backtrack and find. How about a field for your check number, the singular way to identify your checks/transactions? It doesn't have one. One of the 8 or so automatic fields they do give you is unit number. Problem is, it's a simple numeric assignment based on the number of units you input when you create each building's account, and it can't be altered. Apartments lettered instead of numbered, numbered in partial sequence, alpha-numeric, by floors, cardinal direction, etc? Tough luck. These are just a few of the problems or basic design flaws I've come across. It took several painstaking hours to transfer the entries from my old software and books into this new software, and now I'm stuck until I either find the time to transfer the data to something I trust, or I continue to use this program until the end of the year. It's half baked, and that's putting it lightly. I wouldn't recommend it for even the most entry-level rental property owners or managers. I can't imagine a big firm using it. Regular quicken costs half as much (though even that's getting horrible reviews on Amazon). The previous reviewer said it's no better than a simple excel spread sheet. I'd go further and say it's worse. Save your time and money, and just create a simple excel file.

Peachtree Complete Accounting 7.0 Review

Peachtree Complete Accounting 7.0
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used Peachtree Accounting for about 5 years now. I am happy with it's capabilities, but it is not particularly user friendly. The interface is not at all intuitive and there is a lot of redundancy. It is a very mouse intense program (five mouse clicks to complete a task when two would have sufficed). The account reconciliation program for balancing your checkbook is cumbersome and difficult to use.
I have an MBA and a strong accounting background and it definitely helps in using this program. I think this is more of a useful tool for accountants or professional bookkeepers than your average entrepreneurial Joe running his own small business. For that type of user, I would probably recommend QuickBooks.
Peachtree is far superior for keeping track of inventory and its payroll features are excellent. It also has a job costing feature that I use that I don't think can be matched by any other software in its price range.
Overall, if you are an intermediate to expert computer user and have a strong knowledge of accounting, or do a lot of job costing or work with inventories, this is an excellent tool. But it is clearly not for everyone. If you don't need some of these features, or if you want the program to demystify accounting and make it easy, you might want to look for a product that is easier to use or more appropriate to your accounting needs.

Quicken Rental Property Manager 2.0 Review

Quicken Rental Property Manager 2.0

This will be a great piece of software one day. It is not yet. It is still essentially a "beta" version with many "known issues" (i.e. flaws and things that don't work) that you don't find out about until you visit Intuit's help site. I'm disappointed that Intuit would release a software package like this and charge full price when it still clearly needs a lot of work. The basic functionality is there, but I broke it four different ways just using it the first night. Like I said, when they get all the bugs ironed out, it will be a great piece of software. As of now, I feel disappointed and ripped off that they are charging full price for a prototype that doesn't work completely.

Quicken Home & Business 2007 Review

Quicken Home and Business 2007

Been using Quicken for years, and this is by far the worst version ever. On my 2GHz PC I can see the screen redrawing because of all the fancy stuff they are trying to do with the interface - stuff that BTW adds little value to the overall application. It's a total dog!
I'd stick with the 2006 version if I had the opportunity to go back. Unfortunately now that I've upgraded I believe I'm stuck.

QuickBooks Premier Accountant Edition 2009 Review

DON'T USE QUICKBOOKS PAYROLL!!!!!
I am a QB Pro Advisor and have many QB clients. I am fairly happy with QB overall, but their payroll systems have a MAJOR SECURITY FLAW in them that everyone should know about. I lost a client over this and suffice it to say I'm not happy. QB Enterprise Edition also has this flaw by the way, and QB does not know what to do about it. They don't seem to care either. Apparantly, even though you can lock people out of QB payroll transactions etc., if they have access to the general ledger, then they have access to detail payroll data. The reason for this is that QB posts the detail of every paycheck to the G/L. So if you want to prevent someone in the accounting department from seeing payroll (a typical client need), user permissions doesn't do the trick. Because even though they can't see the payroll transactions in the payroll module, they can see every gross payroll transaction for each employee in the general ledger!!! Great job designing this part of the system QuickBooks!!!!

H&R Block At Home 2009 Premium & Business Federal + State + eFile Review

HandR Block At Home 2009 Premium and Business Federal + State + eFile
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The section that follows is my first impression of the Business program, generated on January 15. At the end of that, I include my second impression on February 15 of the business program (1120S). I'll include a review of the 1040 portion of this software after I do those taxes. OK, that review is in at the very bottom. I'd rate the 1040 as 4-stars.
Ok, I knew H&R was a little more primitive than TurboTax (which I used for 10 years or so), based on my experience with their personal tax package for 2008 taxes, but it was adequate. So this year I tried the Business software (S corp), the only part of this combo-burrito I've tried so far. It is REALLY primitive:
1. First, don't necessarily expect to be able to make sense of the display! The program may show up on your monitor with the check boxes bearing NO spacial relationship to the actual choices. So you call the help desk, and someone tells you to reset your monitor properties to display 1024x768. Oh and make sure that under "Advanced" the dpi resolution is set to 96. The is the only software I've ever used that couldn't recognize my monitor and display correctly. Massive lameness -- and it took 2 long tech support calls to fix it.
1.5. For a while, tech support thought the software was corrupt. I had registered it but BECAUSE I BOUGHT THE SOFTWARE FROM AMAZON, H&R BLOCK HAD NO RECORD OF MY REGISTRATION. So if the software had actually been bad, they could not have downloaded a clean version -- I would have had to return the box to Amazon for a refund and reorder it!! And the tech support person noted that Amazon would probably not take it back because it had been opened! Be warned -- if you really want this stuff, pay the man and download it from H&R Block.
2. Recognize that tech support people have just been hired and will not really know anything, tho they will be friendly and eager to help. Plan to spend an hour or two with vague directions trying to get where you're trying to go. Cultivate a Zen state of mind...
3. Expect the "interview" questions to be something like: "Did you have any 53(c) sect 89 reclaimable charge-backs loss amortizations for deductible klefnabulator expenses?" When you look for more information, there isn't any. When you check out the IRS instructions, they say (surprise!) exactly what the "interview" question said. TurboTax asks you in English, tells you what the amount applies to, and even tells you how commonly this item is entered.
4. Don't expect the program to be smart about anything. TurboTax figures out that if you don't have deduction A, you can't possibly have B or C, but H&R Block asks you every question.
5. Don't expect to be able to import from QuickBooks or last year's taxes produced by TurboTax. Generate those reports and type in your numbers.
6. Don't expect all the forms to be there -- and don't expect the software to let you know. I tried and tried to get to Form 4562, Amortization and Depreciation, and ended up at several different dead-ends. I again called tech support and talked at length with a guy who took me through more dead-ends before finally discovering that the form "hadn't been released by the IRS yet." You might think the software itself would let you know, but you'd be wrong.
7. To switch between your 1120S and filling out a 1099-misc for a contractor is not intuitive. Another call to tech support. For 20 minutes or so, the guy didn't seem to understand what a 1099 was, or even understand that I was working on an S-Corp return and not a 1040(!). More dead ends. Finally, he got help and told me to close the program and reopen it to get where I wanted to go.
8. I then gave up. I should say that I did all this stuff on Jan 15, which I admit is early in the year. So if things improve markedly, I'll update this review.
9. Meanwhile, based on this experience, I would say that the fact this combination package is about half the price of the separate TurboTax business and personal packages, does NOT make it a good deal! It is easy for me to loath Intuit, but next year I'll most likely be doing business with them again. Sigh.
Here's an business tax update on February 15. The updated software still doesn't recognize my monitor, but at least I knew what to do this time and finished filling out taxes fairly quickly. I have done my own taxes for years and had QuickBooks reports and prior year forms. Dollar-wise, the program is off from what I calculated from QuickBooks by about $104, but at this point I'm not quibbling. Nothing has changed from what I said in January, although it seems that all the forms are now available. The interview still seems quite stupid -- and it makes mistakes: I filled out the tax form for an S corporation, which NEVER pays taxes, and the program asked me how much estimated tax I'd paid and tried to get me to pay a penalty for not paying -- AND the business lost money last year! (How often do YOU pay taxes on money you've lost?] Plus, when I opened the file I'd saved from January, the program did not remember where I was but started over at the beginning. Very lame. Yes, TT costs twice as much, but it terms of ease of use and lower stress factor, it is probably worth it. Sigh. I really expected more.
Feb 26, 2009. I've just finished my personal 1040 taxes, and my what a difference! This part of the software is professional, smooth, and easy to use. It recognizes my monitor (ta da!) so I don't have to reconfigure my system to run it. However, I changed the location of my tax file, and it did not remember that. It's a little different than TurboTax, but seems to work fine. Only disadvantage I can see compared to TT is that there is no way to see a WYSIWYG version of your forms (what they show you has the information but does not look much like the paper in your hand) and their reporting and comparison functions at the end are not as complete or complex as TT. QuickBooks Pro 2007 for Mac (Mac) Review

QuickBooks Pro 2007 for Mac (Mac)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I originally purchased QuickBooks Pro for Mac (version 4) back in the '90s because I was impressed with the ease and intuitiveness of Quicken and wanted something just as easy (within reason) for my business. After using QB for a year or two, I was very disappointed to hear Intuit had discontinued the QB for Mac product.
Fast forward a few years. After a temporary slump, the Mac is back on top with new and innovative products. I'm in love with my new PowerMac that significantly boosts my productivity. And I'm still stuck with an aging QuickBooks.
Like other "fair weather friends" who abandoned Mac and then returned when it was hot again, Intuit decided to release an all-new QuickBooks for Mac Version 5. This one would run under the new Mac OS X! And... that's about it. While Windows users benefited from several years of upgrades and new features, the "new" Mac version did not.
One of the advantages of using QuickBooks is the ability to bundle up your files and send them to your accountant for review. But not if you were on a Mac. Nope. Unless your accountant also had the Mac version, you were out of luck.
Intuit expected us to be all excited over running QB under OS X and more than willing to pay full price for the privilege. That's right... no upgrade pricing. I couldn't see shelling out a couple hundred bucks for the same tired software with some lipstick slapped on it.
So I stuck it out with QB4 running under Classic OS9 while Intuit released new versions each year. Each one having only a subset of the Windows version features. Each one requiring you to pay full price to upgrade.
I finally broke down and purchased QuickBooks for Mac 2007 for these reasons:
* I decided it was time to upgrade the rest of my
apps to native OS X and stop using Classic.
* QB for Mac 2007 finally added the ability to
fully customize forms.
* QB for Mac 2007 finally had a usable ability
to bundle up and share records with an accountant
using the Windows version.
* My only other alternative was switching to a
competitive application that was more expensive
and more difficult to use.
As much as I wanted to switch to another vendor, I relented and stayed with QuickBooks. And it works OK. The "Layout Designer" is awkward, but at least I can now make my invoices, etc. look as professional as the rest of my business.
But when I decide to expand my business beyond myself, I'll have the problem of how to share QuickBooks with others... it still doesn't allow multiple user access, while the Windows version has for years.
And get this... QB for Mac 2007 still does not have a timer feature so you can accurately time hourly work and add it to your records. I have to time my labor externally and manually add it into QB. The Windows version... you guessed it. Intuit claims there is no demand among Mac users for this feature. Considering how many creative professionals use Macintosh and charge by the hour, I find that hard to believe.
As long as Intuit treats the Mac community like a bad smell from behind a couch, I will be on the lookout for a better product to replace QB. For now... it will do.

I have used, or should say TRIED to use, this product though version 1.x, 2.x and now 2.5. When it works it is very useful. My trial of version 2.5 went very well so I purchased the upgrade. The day my purchased version was on the UPS truck I moved the balance of my customer data into the trial version. I went to look at the "Names" tab and had a big red "X" across the screen. Several calls to tech support later I found that the computer screen font resolution - actually the "DPI" setting **MUST** be 96 DPI or the software will corrupt the database. I have a high end notebook with a screen resolution of 1680x1050 and my DPI setting was set to 120 so the fonts and icons were more readable. I have about 60 programs running on the same computer that run fine at 120 DPI and there is NO REASON WHY I SHOULD HAVE TO CHANGE IT TO FIT THE SOFTWARE.
The result >> The database I had been loading and working with for about 25 days AND the balance of it I had just put it were trashed! It took me over 6 hours to reload, resysnc and cleanup the data in Outlook, QuickBooks and Customer Manager. Even after that Customer Manager stills trys to push what it thinks is customer info that it got from Outlook into QuickBooks - even though there is nothing in the records that would indicate it is customer data (no groups or categories even remotely flagged as "customer".)
One thing that should make you suspicious is that when you call QuickBooks tech support option >>> #1

QuickBooks 2010 for Mac Review

Updated to delete mention of issues that were fixed in the R4 patch...
Intuit's Quickbooks for Mac team has been busy fixing bugs since this product was released, already having published four bug-fixing updates. There are still some issues with the product which can be read about in the Intuit Community forum, but it is clear that Intuit is working to correct reported issues.
Some reports still do not work properly. For example, a Time by Job Summary report is not sorted, and cannot be sorted. Sorting in most reports is somewhat problematic, only sorting a single field (and often not sorting that field in order). The team needs to look at the Windows version of the product to see how data is supposed to be organized.
Itemized statements duplicate some lines and omit others, so that the sum of the items does not add up to the total shown.
There are a few rough edges that require extra mouse clicks vs the Windows product. For example, if you delete a transaction in a screen such as Enter Bills, the window closes and you have to re-open it to delete another. Of, if you are entering certain kinds of time or transactional activity, you only have an OK button to save the result, and then have to click to open the dialog to make another entry. In the Windows version, the dialogs/windows stay open until closed and there are "Save and New" and "Save and Close" buttons.
The Invoice screen on Mac has a pure white background. On Windows, every other line is highlighted in pale blue to make it easier to read the data for the line. Little things like this make Quickbooks Mac feel less polished.
Enter single activity time - has no timer function as on Windows. On Windows you can click start/stop to accumulate time without jotting down the hour from your watch. Intuit provides a new applet called My Time which provides this stopwatch capability, although it is not as full-features as the Windows Quickbooks Timer app. My Time has some very rough edges, most notably that it can only record time for a single employee for a single company.
Windows users have many more shortcuts available for data entry than Intuit offers in their Mac version. For example, in Windows you can use the Ctrl-S shortcut, as in Quicken, to open up the split transaction view of a register entry, or in a date field you can enter "t" for "today", "m" for the first day of the current month and many other date shortcuts. With QB Mac 2010, none of these are available.
Also, QB Mac does not use context menus (right click pop-up menu) consistently or well. When in a checking account register, for example, a right click offers no QuickBooks commands. The Windows version offers most appropriate commands there. QB Mac does use context menus in other areas, so this must just be an unintended omission.
Two service companies without payroll seemed to import fine from QB Win 2008. A third company with payroll brought over less employee information than I would have hoped, even given that Intuit advertises Quickbooks Mac as not having integrated payroll. First, there is no nice Employee Center as there is in QB Win; you just get a list of employees. Second, double-clicking an employee name brings up only the basic address information along with SSN and hire date from "Personal Info". Date of birth and gender are gone - not even automatically created as custom fields to preserve the data. No payroll and compensation data is brought over to QB Mac . Zilch. So, no items, pay rates, frequency, filing status, allowances, withholding, etc. All gone. Presumably all of this has to be entered manually into the online payroll service that Intuit sells. There is no built-in (private and secure to your computer) payroll option as with the Windows version. The online payroll costs considerably more than basic payroll (1 to 3 employees) for QB Win and does not make economic sense for a firm with a small payroll.
Existing paychecks and payroll liability payments, however, display full split detail, but no payroll liability accounts were created in QB Mac, so proper reports for converted payroll cannot be generated. (Actually, NO reports for payroll can be generated - the option just is not there. My memorized payroll reports came across and do report on the payroll items which are otherwise inaccessible in QB Mac. That is really bizarre. If I had not had any memorized payroll reports, then none would be available in QB Mac for my converted transactions.)
The split detail refers to Payroll Items as in QB Pro Win, but there is no way to access, edit or report on these items in QB Mac. It seems impossible to create a new check with the same format. How hard would it be to have a "New paycheck" or "New liability payment" option that gave you the same split info for new transactions? Intuit KB article 1009746 suggests that you must create liability accounts manually and issue checks in a completely different way than the imported checks. So, how can you generate coherent payroll reports for an entire year, where you switched from Windows to Mac in the middle of the year? I don't think it is possible.
A 570 page e-book is part of the product, downloadable from the Help menu. This book, "Quickbooks Mac 2010 The Official eBook" by Maria Langer and published by McGraw Hill, is a tremendous value for anyone just starting out doing accounting with Quickbooks Mac, and even for experienced users looking at features that they may not have used before.
I recommend that you download the free trial of this product before purchasing if you have any questions about whether it can handle your accounting needs.

QuickBooks Pro 2002 Review

QuickBooks Pro 2002
Average Reviews:

I own a small engineering consulting business and have used Quickbooks since 1995. I was very happy with Quickbooks 99, but am very disappointed in Quickbooks 2002. This version is generally more difficult to use than others. Additionally, the program has a tendency to crash and close without warning, particularly while using online features. It also does not import files from Zoskware's Expenspro (an expense account program for Palm handhelds), no such importation problems occurred with Quickbooks 99. Intuit now offers ABSOLUTELY NO TECHNICAL SUPPORT WHATSOEVER, unless you want to pay them for it. Essentially, Intuit is selling a bug-filled product, then forces the customer to pay for the exterminating.
This product was purchased only because Intuit ceased supporting online banking and stopped offering their payroll subscription services (apparently they approximately [money] yearly charge was providing insufficient income, forcing users to replace software which is only 3 years old). Customers who desire continuance of these features were forced to upgrade, then charged for tech support when this program failed to function as intended. If you upgrade to this version, expect problems and expect to be forced to upgrade again in a few years. If you are purchasing accounting software for the first time, purchase something else.

QuickBooks Pro 2006 Review

QuickBooks Pro 2006
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Sadly Quickbooks 2006 is only a minor upgrade from Quickbooks 2003. Users should also be aware that they will be forced to upgrade this software. at considerable expense, every 3 years. Also payroll services are not included and cost $150.00 more PER year. See "QuickBooks Standard Payroll Subscription" on Amazon.
The upgrade from Quickbooks Pro 2003 went very smoothly. Unfortunately the software, with no notification to the user, adds a second user to the XP operating system, necessitating logging on as a particular user when your computer boots.
We've found no real benefits from this "upgrade". The software boots much slower thanks to the DOUBLING of the company file. New users may find the redesigned home page useful and despite a great deal of verbage - that is about all that is new here.
New users should take advantage of the 30 days of free support - after that Quicken's dubious support is very high priced.
Quicken's business model is important to understand. They do not tweak their software, from year to year, for increased useability. The only changes that Quicken seems to devote their programming talent toward are new features, some well implemented and some poorly implemented - I don't think it matters to them - anything that will suggest a reason to purchase or upgrade the software. How easy the software could function on a day to day basis seems to be never given a thought.
Secondly Quicken expects your purchase of this software to be the first of many purchases from them. New business owners often will need expert help to set it up. Quicken, will of course, provide you with the name of a certified Quickbooks consultant, who for a fee, will set up the software. The software now comes with an on screen tutorial that may help some new users but it seemed less than complete.
New business owners should test all competing software to see what works best for them. Quickbooks is not bad software but it doesn't seem to evolve in a manner that is really sensitive to user's needs.
New users should also be aware that Quickbooks update feature routinely downloads very sizeable files that seem to do little if anything. A high speed internet connection is strongly suggested.

Peachtree Accounting 2005 Review

Peachtree Accounting 2005
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used Peachtree Accounting since 1994. It is the only dual-entry accounting software on the market for the small business person who wants to do his own accounting. Although it is VERY difficult to use for the average person who is also not an accountant -- mainly because setting up and using it are cumbersome -- I continued to use it mainly for payroll. It is the only accounting program which allows me to manually update the payroll tax tables myself, and thus the reason I have not switched over to QuickBooks.I have upgraded almost every year, but this will be my last! The new "registration" policy is asinine! I am no longer allowed to use the software on either my desktop and laptop. It used to allow me to do so. I run no Fortune 500 company. I simply am a small business owner who keeps his own books. I do not always want to sit at my desktop computer doing payroll. Sometimes I want to use my laptop in the living room (or on the road) and access the data file via network on the desktop in my home office. The new system does not allow me to do this. Although I am not working from both computers at the same time, they consider this a need for a multiple license. This is asinine and thus prices their not-so-easy-to-use product out of my budget.I must add that although I have used Peachtree since 1994, have a business degree and more than a few accounting classes in college to my credit, Peachtree is still very difficult and unintuitive to use. Again, the ONLY reason I still use it is the capability of manually editing the tax tables. I guess my using it on either of my two computers (nonsimultaneous) in the past makes me a criminal in their eyes. A paying one at that! Oh well .. they've lost my business forever anyway!

I helped my wife set up this POS software for her retail store. We wanted barcoded inventory control and good integration with QuickBooks Pro (financial).
Despite the fact that we have a graduate degree in computer science, and experience with accounting, we spent many long nights fixing problems and bugs in this software. Our expectations were pretty low based on reviews we had read--but this software has been much worse.
To add insult to injury, you're constantly given pop-up ads trying to sell you additional Intuit features. Less insulting is the well known fact that some important features are disabled in the Basic software and you need to upgrade to Pro to do things like editing the layout of price tags.
If the software crashes on you (and I personally guarantee it will), and you call support, they will tell you you need to buy a support contract. When your system is down due to their incompetence, this is a big insult.
The software would be workable if it was stable. Intuit needs to halt adding new features to this software, hire a better software team, and just spend some time stabilizing the product. It is to flaky for production use. Here are maybe half of the bugs we have ran in to:
- Rename company file, rename back, deletes all your backups
- End of day Z-out and drawer count. choose Custom time period, choose time. That time becomes default for any subsequent "Today" Z-out reports. Drawer is off. If you run "Custom" again with correct time and date (today, 12-12), it then ignores the deposit so your drawer is off again next time you do a regular "Today" z-out drawer count.
- Warning about QBF has changed to new company file is not dependable--- we got our warning a week later after we noticed it ourselves and used QBF to compare the two files (which must have triggered the late warning--which was then triggered multiple times, clicking OK 3 times in a row still did not allow end of day financial data exchange to proceed--had to cancel and try again).
- Popup dialog "Problem: some of your changes are still being updated. Solution: Please wait for the dashboard to complete the update and try again". Cannot close POS, thus cannot reboot cleanly. May need to kill process.
- Credit card processing stopped working suddenly. multiple days of many hour calls with SW tech support in India did not resolve problems. Staff left our computer firewalls open, changed our company file and generally messed things up. Reconfigured all windows networking, killed POS SW, rebooted, and days later it started working again but cut out once and required another reboot.
- When entering credit card information manually, sometimes you can enter a voice auth. number and bypass network authentication, other times you cannot. Seems to depend on which order you click on fields in the GUI but it really works only randomly.

MYOB ACCOUNTEDGE 2009 FOR MAC Review

MYOB ACCOUNTEDGE 2009 FOR MAC

Update: Here's where I started exploring MYOB in 2004. Six years later I'm still happy with the decision to use MYOB. Hopefully this review will help you make a smart decision. - David Cannon
I, like you, have been wading through the sea of worthless hyped information in search of a decent small business accounting package. I'm not an accountant, I am small business owner with a mission. When I asked my small biz friends what they were using, their usual offer was to loan me a copy of quickbooks on cdrom. I declined each time while asking more probing questions.

The #1 QB complaint was too many upsell ads followed by complaints about QB's cumbersome steps. All recommended at least 12 hours of self training before using QB. Three of five said they had quit using quickbooks pro. Two had outsourced accounting to a part time bookkeeper for about $1500 month.
Over the years I have worked in consulting. I was on the project team for installation and conversion of the worlds largest installation of Oracle Financials (at Zales Jeweler's). The moral learned was that consultants NEVER recommend something that cuts into future consulting revenue. So why do accountant's pitch QB??? Is it popularity, apathy or greed? Interesting that CNET reviews of QB don't display any score. Since 2004 CNET gives MYOB a 7.7 and SA is 7.0. So how could I possibly compare with that data? The answer is that it's not possible. While most people would give up and simply roll the dice on QB - My stubborn dedication drives me to seek a better answer.
Facts discovered so far:
1) ALL the old QB reviews are bad signs, Many of the old MYOB reviews were somewhat good with certain conditions.
2) MYOB offers a free flash tutorial & 30 day moneyback or you can take the trial download. [...]
3) Small business owners are pioneers, control freeks, willing to give-up a steady paycheck to purse an uncertain path to their dreams. We take our chances and make our own money. I can't get ahead by just following the pack.
4) You will have to invest some effort to learn a new product. I planned on 12 hours over one weekend.
5) I need a good solid bookkeeping system. Advanced forcasting just does not apply in small business. We always want more and need to focus on better marketing & promotions. No accounting package would have forcasted my sales growth correctly. A good promotion can completely change your future. You can really kick start sales with "Free Publicity" by my new friend Jeff Crilley (Fox News) and "Ultimate Marketing Plan" by Dan Kennedy.
6) I will always have to pay for annual upgrades anyway.
7) You should expect tech support is usually a low paid warm body reading from the manual. Good training on my end is the better strategy for most issues. (search on myob training)
I downloaded the free trial from [...] along with the tutorial. My control freek nature wants to make a program conform to me, but I have agreed to give it a chance using it as designed. Next week I will reload the system and begin using it for daily operations. So far it looks good for my service business... Try it yourself before cratering to QB. Your future may depend on it.
I wish you all the best in your endeavor,
