(More customer reviews)I upgraded a 5+ year old computer to a new one. Both are running XP and both are Dells. Like most people, one of the main reasons I kept the old computer was the hassel of upgrading.
I was hoping this product would make the process much easier.
While PC Relocator did a good job of moving my settings, email, cookies and so on, I still had to reinstall a lot of my software. It was amazingly slow using the included USB cable - don't even try it if you have a home network - use the network (turn firewalls off). I started using the USB because it looked simpler but when it told me it would take over 65 hours, I cancelled and started over with the network. That was much faster (5 hours) but it still choked. Finally I reduced the number of files (I can copy them without this program) and it ran quickly (under 2 hours). But still I had to reinstall many of my programs, which is what I was trying to avoid.
Overall, I figure this product saved me about 40% of the time I would have spent without it. I may have not been able to move everything as efficiently as it did. It did not, however, deliver what I was hoping for - a fairly seamless transition.
Full disclosure - my old computer had 4 partitions and the new one has only one (and, for simplicity I wanted to keep it that way). I used the Expert mode, which allows you to change the drive your programs will install on (was on D, will be on C). If you have a simpler set up - especially the same number of partitions on both machines - it might work better since I think the reason I had problems had to do with file locations - they couldn't find their .dlls and other supporting files.
Bottom line - having this product was better than not having it for me but I still have a lot of work to do to fully enjoy my new XPS 400.
